Cat Cancer - Signs to Look for

If you thought that only humans could have cancer, you would be wrong. Cancer is also surprisingly common in cats, and if found, it requires veterinary attention immediately.

One particular type of cancer that cats may suffer from is bone cancer (although it is more common in dogs). This usually affects the cat's limbs, often causing the cat to limp.

The most common form of bone cancer is osteosarcoma which prevents production of new bone. Osteosarcoma also causes your cat's bones to disintegrate, and the worst thing about it is that you may not even notice that your cat has it until it is too late.

Osteosarcoma in cats is not very apparent. You should look for your cat beginning to limp, as this is usually the first sign. It is easy to dismiss lameness or stiffness as the more common joint disease, arthritis, but if you wait to long with osteosarcoma, the only cure could be amputation.

Early discovery generally helps with treatment. So, to keep your cat healthy, it is always advisable to keep your vet appointments as well as checking your cat regularly to see if there is anything different. Additionally, feeding your cat a healthy diet, and spaying your cat can also help prevent health problems.
